AbilityTalks and GEIG Launch Special Podcast Episode to Celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Accra, Ghana — AbilityTalks, the storytelling platform dedicated to elevating the voices, experiences, and rights of persons with disabilities, is proud to partner with the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) to release a special podcast episode in honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), observed globally on December 3rd. This episode comes off the tail of the two entities collectively engaging, training, and offering resources to parents and caregivers of children with disabilities.

Partners of this workshop include Accra Rehabilitation Center, Inclusive Families Alliance, Klicks Africa Foundation, Robb Foundation, Deaf Can Talk, and Tech Era.

This year’s episode is themed: “Parents and Caregivers: Including Your Child Within the Home Before They Enter the World.”

The collaborative episode underscores the powerful influence of the home environment in shaping the lives of children with disabilities. Through candid conversations with parents, caregivers, educators, and disability advocates, the discussion highlights how early inclusion at home fosters confidence, resilience, and positive identity—ultimately preparing children with disabilities to thrive in school, community, and society.

Inclusion begins at home. It starts with love, acceptance, and listening to our children—long before the world meets them,” said a representative from AbilityTalks. “This episode sheds light on practical ways families can create environments where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.”

GEIG’s Executive Director, Elizabeth Patterson, emphasized the organization’s commitment to inclusive education and family-centered support. “Families play a pivotal role in shaping the educational journeys and social outcomes of children with disabilities. Empowering parents and caregivers is essential to ensuring no child is left behind,” she noted.

The special episode explores key themes including:

  • Building inclusive routines and communication within the home

  • Affirming children’s abilities and nurturing self-worth

  • Preparing children with disabilities to navigate public spaces with confidence

  • Addressing stigma by strengthening family understanding and advocacy

  • The role of organizations like GEIG in supporting inclusive family practices

The partnership between AbilityTalks and GEIG highlights a shared vision: a society where every child—regardless of ability—has the opportunity to flourish and belong.

Listeners can access the full episode on all major podcast platforms and through AbilityTalks’ official channels.
